- Prerequisites
- Basics of inorganic and organic chemistry and laboratory practice is expected.
- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Chemistry of Conservation - Restoration (programme PřF, N-CH)
- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the fundamentals of mechanism and kinetic of materials degradation processes due to the environment, furthermore with the resistance of materials to the effects of the main types of environments, especially water, soil, atmosphere and chemical substances/mixtures and to provide students with a comprehensive overview of methods, agents and application technologies for protection against degradation.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to:
- Analyze current trends in scientific understanding of materials degradation processes by environmental influences;
- Identify the effects of the key factors of material degradation systems, with emphasis on the assessment of the importance of the mechanism and the kinetic of degradation processes;
- Compare and optimize methods and means of protection systems of metals, polymers and other materials against the effects of basic degradation environments;
- Design and explain the suitability of research and testing methods, with an emphasis on the ability to modeling and stimulation of process kinetics;
- Apply the results of scientific and technical knowledge of protection systems and optimize them from the point of view of method, means and technology for particular systems – degradation environment, by emphasizing the long-term effect of the protective system. - Syllabus
