Course objectives
Students will inspect various types of sedimentary rocks from southern Moravian region during the field course. Visited sites will belong to the Palaeozoic of the Moravian Karst and Boskovice Graben, to the Mesozoic of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin and to the Cenozoic of the Krosno-Menilite group of nappes, Carpathian Foredeep and Vienna Basin. The main aim of the field course is to practice logging methods.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, student will be able to:
- recognise and describe various types of sedimentary rocks in field;
- recognise and describe textures and structures of sedimentary rocks;
- document vertical and lateral relations of sedimentary bodies and facies architecture;
- document successions of sediments (drawing of sedimentary logs, photo-mosaics etc.);
- apply gained knowledge of documentation of sedimentary succession to geological exploration and research;
