- Course objectives
- Students are supposed to learn some principles of projective methods interpretation. The main focus is on Rorschach method (ROR) and Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). The course should contribute to development of the basic skills in projective approach to assessment and is a pre-requisite for postgraduate training in both methods.
- Syllabus
- Block I: Projective methods: history, projective psychology, projective approach, holistic ands structural models of projective assessment. ROR: Rorschach method: original experiments, biography of H. Rorschach, theory of H. Rorschach and later psychoanalytical and perception-cognitive approaches. Variations of Rorschach method: Behn-Rorschach, Zulliger. TAT: What is the storytelling? Relation between life a story. History of TAT. Variations of TAT: TAT, CAT, SAT, MAPS, TEMAS, AAC. Block II: ROR: Developmental approach, developmental psychopathology. Intra-test behaviour and extrapolation into extratests situations. TAT: theory and principles of projection and apperception in TAT, latent and manifest meaning, imagination and real world, distorsion of apperception, general approaches to interpretation, validity and reliability of TAT, TAT in cultural and gender contexts. Block III. ROR: Description of particular ROR tables. Common meanings of the inkblots. TAT: When we use TAT? Instruction. TAT pictures as stimuli. Sequential analysis of TAT story sequences. Block IV. ROR: Scoring: the basic rules. Location and developmental quality, determinants, contents, special scores. TAT: Overview of scoring approaches: Murray, Henry, Tomkins, McClleland, Ronan, Bellak, Teglasi. Block V. ROR: Practice of administration, observation, recording of verbal and nonverbal client behaviour. TAT: Basics of interpretation: Import of story in TAT and some cognitive and emotional characteristics in TAT stories. Block VI. Interpretation of whole ROR and TAT protocol: demostration and practice in group. Note: Analysis of case fragments are involved into blocks continually.

- Assessment methods
- Lecture and seminar once in two weeks. Students are supposed to write an essay on one ROR and TAT protocol provided by lecturers. They use knowledge gained during the course. and by their independent study. 4 credits.
