To be admitted to the German for Lawyers exam, the students are required to have completed a 2 semester course.

Course objectives
The main objectives can be summarized as follows: to get the basic knowledge of legal German to learn the basic terminology in various areas of law to learn to find information in primary and secondary literature to improve one's skills in areas typical for professional language to sum up the basic concepts of a text both orally and in writing to learn to define basic concepts.
Syllabus
  • Topics for reading comprehension, assisted discussion and terminology 1. Indirect speech in German legalese 2. The European Union - founding, the sources of EU law 3. The European Union - EU bodies, the Treaty of Maastricht, the Treaty of Amsterdam 4. The European Union - domestic market: free movement, free circulation of goods, services and capital 5. The European Union - economic and monetary union 6. The Council of Europe 7. The United Nations 8. Asylum procedure, migration in Germany,forms of asylum, the Geneva Convention 9. The act on residence of aliens - the forms of residence permit 10.UNHCR - introduction to UNHCR 11.The European Convention on Human Rights 12.Final course Requirements for the exam in German for Lawyers II Written part: work on a piece of unknown specialized text with a dictionary a) reading comprehension questions b) translation of a part of the text into Czech, 5-8 lines c) reconstruction of an original specialized German text by substituting grammatical and stylistic items Oral part: a) assisted reproduction according to the topics given below b) terminology in the extent of 2 terms subject matter c) conversation on a given topic Topics for the controlled reproduction 1. Commercial law - business person, agent, commercial undertaking 2. Company law a) partnership b) stock corporation 3. Criminal law a) basic principles b) elements of a criminal offence, consequences of a crime 4. Procedural law a) particular type of court, jurisdiction b) a court, legal proceedings, the system of courts in Germany c) civil proceedings d) criminal proceedings 5. Juvenile criminal law - criminal liability of children and juveniles, consequences of criminal acts of juveniles 6.
