Necessary for subject absolution is knowledge of topics from VLLM0421c. This knowledge is considered obvious and topics of first semester will not be explained repeatedly - Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- General Medicine (eng.) (programme LF, M-VL)
- General Medicine (programme LF, M-VL)
- Course objectives
- Subject follows first (methodological) part of practical education of microbiology (VLLM0421c).
After the course, the students are supposed to understand basics of diagnostic medical bacteriology, mycology and parasitology (virology was allready done in the 1st part).
Namely the student are supposed to understand basic diagnostic approaches for
* G+ bacteria: staphylococci, streptococci, enterococci, coryneforms, listeriae, bacilli
* G- bacteria: enterobacteriae, vibria, aeromonads, campylobacters, helicobacters, pseudomonads, other G- non-fermenters, haemophili, pasteurellae, neisseriae, moraxellae, basically also legionellae, brucellae, bordetellae and francisellae
* anaerobic bacteria: clostridia and spore non-forming anaerobes
* acid fast and partially acid fast bacteria: Mycobacterium, Actinomyces, Nocardia
* spiral bacteria: genera Borrelia, Treponema and Leptospira
* basic medically important yeasts, dermatophytes and other micromycetes
* basic medically imprortant protozoa, roundworms, flukes, tapeworms and arthropods
They should also have a basic survey in
* problematics of biofilm detection (including testing of effectivity of antibiotics to biofilm)
* basic processi of clinical microbiology (indication, sampling, material transport, specimen processing, result releasing, result interpretation)
Those interested in deeper knowledge in antibiotic problematic and clinical microbiology may later register to the subject VSAT081 (Basics of antimicrobial therapy) - Syllabus
