Course objectives
The course consists of two main topics:

1. Special epidemiology and vaccinology
2. Legal aspects in health care

The aim of teaching the first topic is:
- obtaining competencies in the prevention of transmission of infectious diseases, focusing on the most common or most serious community-related and healthcare-associated infections,
- understanding the patterns affecting the occurrence of infections - economic, environmental, social or cultural influences,
- getting acquainted with the current epidemiological situation in the Czech Republic and in the world and with the possibilities of abuse of agents of infections,
- to acquire the fundamentals of vaccination, focusing on the importance of vaccination and the safety of vaccines.

The aim of teaching the second topic is:
- understanding the importance of legal issues in the health care,
- obtaining skills in law enforcement in the patient care,
- understanding the legally defined processes in the education of doctors and in the area of competence of healthcare professionals.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:

- apply knowledge of the incidence and transmission of infectious diseases in the provision of preventive and repressive anti-epidemic measures at community level and in healthcare facilities,
- understand the determinants of infectious diseases and enter the secrets of the epidemic and pandemic spread of infections,
- use vaccination to prevent infections in their medical practice, including knowledge of reasoning on the general public,
- apply knowledge of basic legislation in patient care and career,
- understand the rights and duties of both the patient and the healthcare professionals.

Assessment methods

REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN THE CREDIT:

1. Students are requirred to fullfil all of the requirements of the subject.
2. Attendance is compulsory. Only one absence is acceptable.
In case of more than one excused absence, substutution is possible and required. This can be done by attending seminar(s) on the same topic in a different block during the semester. This must be agreed with the teacher.
If that absence is not excused, substitutional paper or presentation is required. Topic and other information are set by the teacher.
In case of more than one unexcused absence, substutution is not possible and this student has to repeat the subject in the following academic year.

CREDIT TEST INFORMATION:

1.   Get at least 70 % (14 out of 20 questions) in the credit test, which is a requisite to sit for examination.

2.   Each student must register in the Information System (IS) in one of the offered credit test terms. The credit test has fixed examination terms / dates - (Only during the examination period, except the examination pre-term). No extra-terms will be given.
3.   Students registered to a credit test term will fail the term if:
  a-) arrive late to the test. No late arrival will be allowed after the start of the credit test.
  b-) they are not present and previously do not cancel the term in the stipulated periods (see IS).

4.   In case of failure, EACH STUDENT CAN RETAKE THE CREDIT TEST TWO MORE TIMES, only in given terms (according to Masaryk University study and examination regulations).

5.   In case of failure during the third term (second resit), the student must repeat the course in the following school year.

6.   All credit test questions are based on ALL REQUIRED LITERATURE, seminars and lectures.


The credit test is a written examination → 20 multiple choice question test, with only one correct answer - (to pass the test, it is required a minimum of 14 correct answers / points).

SCORE:

  Passed → 14 and more correct answers / points.
  Failed → 13 or less correct answers / points.



  Correct answer = 1 point.
  No answer = 0 point.
