Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to give an actual theoretic base and recent clinical knowledge to chosen problems in dermatovenereology. Special attendance is given to problems of protective functions of the skin realized by different skin barrier systems, skin immunology, theoretical base of light interactions with the skin, phototherapy indications and contraindications, a basic allergic reaction and different types of topical treatment.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able:
- to describe and differentiate pathological findings in common skin diseases to interpret it with basic differential diagnose, with the ability to propose investigation and treatment, with the background of knowledge of skin physiology and pathophysiological mechanisms.
Syllabus
  • The first part of lectures is focused on general problems like structure of the skin, hygiene of healthy and diseased skin, basic morphology, diagnostic procedures and therapeutic possibilities in dermatology with the emphasis on topical therapy. In the second – special part – especially suppurative, fungal, viral and parasitic skin diseases, drug eruptions, eczemas, psoriasis, skin features of chronic venous insufficiency and skin tumors are discussed with the help of photographic images. The final part is dedicated to sexually transmitted diseases including AIDS.

Teaching methods
Lecture, an interactive dialog in seminars, the study of theoretical background simultaneously.
Assessment methods
Giving the course-unit credit is conditioned by 100% attendance and current examination of knowledge. Evaluation of acquired knowledge in clinical dermatology by work with in patient, orally evaluation of basic knowledge of dermatovenereology by the teacher during the practicals, possible control by supervisor/head of the department.
