Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to improve the students understanding of the purpose of pupil or class diagnostics and to be able to use basic diagnostic methods and techniques, and to be able interpret results.
Syllabus
  • Topics The subject and basic terminology in pedagogical diagnostics. The process of diagnostics – its stages, methods and techniques, results and their interpretation. The relationship between diagnostics and research of a pupil and a class. The diagnostics of cognitive aptitude of a pupil: abilities, knowledge and skills, learning styles, pupils interpretation of subject matter, creativity. Methods and techniques of diagnostics – tests (examples of different tests on abilities and intelligence), didactic tests, questionnaires, scales, questions and tasks, written works on a chosen topic, mental maps, pupils drawings. Diagnostics of affective dispositions and characteristics of a pupil: attitudes, moral maturity, motivation to learning, pupils interests and needs. An overview of methods and techniques of diagnostics, used by school and counselling psychologists and methods deployed by a teacher. Diagnostics of a class: relationship between pupils and classroom climate. Methods and techniques of diagnostics – observation, interview (individual and group), sociometric techniques, questionnaires on classroom climate.
