Course objectives
After completion of this course the student will be able to define specifics of care for persons with hearing impairment from birth to end of life. The student will deepen knowledge gained in the subject called Basic in the scientific category of hearing impairment and will be able to focus on possibilities of diagnostics of hearing loss; will be able to give details of typical deviations (abnormalities ) in language development of people with hearing impairment; will be able to rationalize difficulties in reading comprehension of persons with hearing impairment and to know specifics of writing skills of them; will focus on possibilities of compensation of hearing loss and specify hearing aids used by the people with the handicap. The student will be oriented to the possibilities of early intervention in hearing impaired people, will be able to describe The complex care of a person with a hearing disability from an early age to a period of mood will know the system Education of people with hearing impairment, opportunities for vocational training and professional use of these individuals. The student will be oriented in the offer of social services for people with hearing impairment, including interpreting Services. The student will learn about visual-motor communication means, will acquire basic skills in this area and will be able to describe the importance of their use in practice. In addition, there will be a presentation of the subject of the individual Sensory disabilities, the ability to communicate and care for these individuals throughout their lives.
Learning outcomes
• orientation in classification and etiology of hearing impairment; • orientation in the possibilities of comprehensive care for people with hearing impairment and education system; • ability to describe communication systems used by people with hearing impairment; • orientation in the possibilities of auditory prosthetics and in the procedures for the rehabilitation of hearing impaired individuals.
Syllabus
  • Terminology in the scientific category of hearing impairment, history of care of people with hearing impairment, psychological peculiarities of people with hearing disabilities, principles and work methods, technical aids, development of vocabulary, development of reading skills, hearing reeducation, lipreading, finger spelling, conditions and acoustic aspects of speech, modulation factors, various ways of commmunication.Comprehensive care for people with hearing impairment.  Early intervention of hearing impaired individuals.  Advice in schools and school counseling facilities.  Education system for people with hearing impairment (special education, inclusive education, social Inclusion).  Preparation for the occupation and professional use of people with hearing impairment, possibilities of counseling.  Visually-motorized communication systems and their use in education and lifelong learning.  Interpreting services for people with hearing impairment.  Organization for people with hearing impairment.  Deaf community. Deafblindness - dual sensory disability, care system, communication possibilities.
