- Course objectives
- Chapters in the Syntax of Czech language II follows Chapters in the Syntax of Czech language I. There are explained the attitudes to the analysis of the compound sentence in teh Czech syntax (F. Trávníček, F. Kopečný, K. Svoboda, M. Grepl, P. Karlík, J. Hrbáček and other). There are explained syntactical relations in the compound sentences, classification of the dependent clauses. Criterion of the interpretation of the relations in the compound sentence (co-ordination and sub-ordination; connection and incorporation of the propositions of the clauses, comp. Grepl, Karlík 1998). Fundamental terms of the textual syntax: text, speech unit, textual unit, sentence as a textual units. Coherence of the text, connective words; thematic-rheumatic relations in the text (F. Daneš).

- 1. Criterion for the differentiation between sentence and compound sentence. 2. Sentences connected in the compound sentence. Connectives (word category, syntactical function, meaning). 3. Types of the compound sentence. Juxtaposition. Co-ordination, subordination in the compound sentence. Criterion of the classification. 4. Main clause and dependent clause. 5. Co-ordination in the compound sentence. Types of the semantic function of the co-ordination, the connective of the co-ordination. 6. Subordination in the compound sentence. 7. Classification of the dependent clauses in the compound sentence. 8. Sentence in the text. Sentence as communicative units. Segmentation of the text. Units of the texts. 9. Structure of the text. Connective in text, meaning and function of them. Functional perspective of the sentence and the structure of the text.
