- Course objectives
- Students will be acquainted with selected issues that psycholinguistics investigates. The course builds on theories of second language acquisition (SLA), cognitive and social psychology, theory of communication, (socio)linguistics, sociology and other disciplines. Special attention is paid to the integration of findings in the light of conceptual and methodological issues that are related to the acquiring/learning of a foreign language and its use in interpersonal interaction.
- Syllabus
- Applied Psycholinguistics is a core subject in the linguistic block and at the same time plays an important role for the integration of the findings with the didactic and educational-psychological block. Topics: Introduction
- A summary of the issues that psycholinguistics deals with. Definition of the discipline, its interdisciplinary nature.
- Theories and methods in psycholinguistics Selected aspects of cognitive psycholinguistics.
- Cognitive and social theories of second language acquisition (SLA) - a review and comparison of underlying assumptions.
- Cognitive views on learning/acquisition in SLA - a review
- Cognitive views on using a foreign language and on interaction in foreign language Social and dialogist views on interaction.
- Monologism a dialogism as frameworks for the conceptualizing and investigating of interaction
- Dialogist views of interaction and social views on SLA and foreign language use Communication and interaction in a foreign language (and in foreign language teaching).
- Research on classroom interaction in the light of monologist and dialogist approaches.
