- The course is offered EXCLUSIVELY to the students of the Chinese Department of Masaryk University.
- Exceptions could be made ONLY IF an Erasmus student has Chinese Studies as their major at their home university and if the student can present documented proof. Language proficiency certificates (HSK/TOCFL) are NOT accepted.

Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:

understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in school, leisure, etc;

understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday language;

deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken;

deal with unprepared conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events);

present clear descriptions on a certain range of subjects related to fields of interest;

briefly explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options;
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to: - understand paragraph-length utterances pertaining to a wide range of topics relating to daily and academic life. - sustain conversation in coherent paragraphs - identify key facts and some details in descriptive material on daily life. - write essays of 400-500 characters, comprising at least 3 paragraphs, dealing with topics related to the content of the lesson texts studied in class

  • This course (Chinese IV) uses Integrated Chinese Level 2 Part 2 (Lesson 11-20; i.e., 10 lessons + 2 review weeks), following the order of the textbook's lessons.

Teaching methods
lectures, class discussion, group projects, oral presentation, drills, homework, quiz & exam.
Combined instruction language: one session in the week, the teaching is conducted in Czech/Slovak.
Assessment methods
Final written exam (computerized, on campus) and oral exam (in person). The student needs to pass both the written (70% above) and the oral exam.
Besides the exams, the following rules must be observed:
1) Up to 4 unexcused absences are allowed in one semester. In case of 5 or more unexcused absences, the student will not be allowed to sit the final exam.
2) In order for an absence to be excused, the student should approach the Study Department of the Faculty with an official request.
3) The student fulfills all tasks given by the teacher (assignments, presentations, etc.) Unpreparedness is judged as absence.
4) Students must not switch study groups, unless the teacher explicitly approved.
FORMAT OF FINAL EXAMS:
The written exam takes place on a Monday or Tuesday, followed by the oral exam on Thursday or Friday of the same week. Only after a student passed the written part will s/he be allowed to sit the oral. The oral part takes the form of 1-on-1 conversation with the main examiner. The students who passed the written part will be approached for a time slot for the oral.
The oral part takes place in the presence of a senior member of the department as a co-examiner ;-)
