Course objectives
The main aim of the course is to transfer the theoretical knowledge of general subjects of teaching qualification to the certain conditions of teaching the Russian language and literature. It is predominantly connected with the skill of concretizing elements that motivates to study this language and the culture in general, to understand the basic differences of Russian as a Slavic language from the Czech or Slovak and to be able to work with them while teaching. The ability to judge the suitability of the particular methodological approaches for teaching different linguistic and cultural phenomena also belongs here, that is with regard to age and psychological characteristics of the students and to specifics of the study aim (including, for example, specialized language courses).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students will be able:
- to be acquainted with the concrete ways how to prepare and to lead classes of Russian language and literature for Czechs in various groups and motivation of the students and to focus on gaining practical knowledge while teaching;
- to prepare get own practical experience that are usable in practice with the students of different levels of education in leading classes;
- to discuss about the theoretic approaches of teaching Russian language and literature and to compare them with the praxis in schools and to deduce the reasons for their own methods in particular situations;
- to respect the specific features of the mother tongue (Czech/Slovak) and the object language (Russian) when preparing certain studying topics.
Syllabus
  • 1. Didactics of Russian in basic categories and terms. Language, speech and communication goals of FL teaching and its definition in the teaching process.
  • 2. Curricular documents (RVP, SVP). CERRL: stages of learning and mastering a foreign language. Russian as a second (third) FL. Multilingualism and language policy of the state (National Plan for the Development of Education, Strategy of Educational Policy of the Czech Republic).
  • 3. Pedagogical, psychological and linguistic bases of teaching Russian as a foreign language. Principles of teaching/learning FL. Motivation. Strategies of learning FL. Principles of mother tongue and foreign language acquisition.
  • 4. The role of the teacher of Russian as a foreign language. Teacher's portfolio. Teacher's preparation for classes with regard to motivation for expanding knowledge of Russian language, literature and culture. Mistakes of a beginning teacher.
  • 5. Development of key competences in teaching FL. Linguistic, pragmatic, sociolinguistic, strategic competences. Intercultural communicative competence.
  • 6. Development of FL teaching methods and criteria for choosing the appropriate method for teaching specific phenomena (lexical, phonetic, grammatical, etc.). Alternative methods of teaching Russian.
  • 6. Development of productive and reproductive skills in teaching, taking into account the individual phenomena taught. Acquisition of specific knowledge and skills, including their consolidation.
  • 7. Planning of teaching, progress and evaluation of the teaching unit. Types of lessons and extracurricular activities and their characteristics, possibilities of activation in teaching with regard to the specifics of the subject taught (Russian language and literature).
  • 8. The role and place of teaching linguore in RL classes. Russian literature in teaching Russian as a foreign language.
  • 9. Specifics of teaching Russian as a Slavic language in teaching Czech/Slovaks. Interference and transfer in the teaching of Russian in the Czech environment.
  • 10. Theory and use of russian textbooks. Textbook sets for teaching Russian at secondary schools and criteria for their selection for a specific group of learners.
  • 11. Cross-cutting themes in Russian language education. Inter-subject relations. Integration of general education subjects into the teaching of Russian.
  • 12. Workshop with a teacher from practice / with a graduate. Case study.
  • 13. ICT and its use in teaching with regard to the effectiveness of the teaching process. Educational portals and available online materials for teaching RJ.
