OJ103 Intr. to phonetics - theory
First cycle; the course is a follow-up to the course of general phonetics (OJ103) and phonology (OJ103), hence it is recommended that studens attend it after their completion

Course objectives
The goal of the course is to deepen general knowledge of phonetics and phonology. At its end students should be able to apply this knowledge on concrete languagesn. They will be able to analyze the sound structure of languages both from the phonetic and phonological perspective. They will understand and will also be able to apply principles of phonological analysis.

  • Phonetics and phonology, differences and common points
  • Phonetic classication of consonants in the world's languages
  • Phonetic classication of vowels in the world's languages
  • Syllable and suprasegmental phonic means in the world's languages
  • Phonological analysis, basic terms and principles
  • Phonological problems: neutralization, defective distribution, sandhi, mutations
  • Phonological organization of utterances
