- Course objectives
- The course is based on an annotated reading of Caesar's Commentarii de bello Gallico. During the second semester of this course, students read the 4th and 6th book of the Caesar's work. The stress is laid mainly on the understanding, adekvate translation and ability of explaining the grammar.
- Syllabus
- Reading of Caesar's Commentarii de bello Gallico: books 4, 6
- Practice of adequate translation of the Latin original text. (Stress on the differences between the Latin syntactic constructions and the Czech modern ekvivalents.)
- Comparation of the Latin original text and existing Czech translations.
- Gramatical analysis.
- Interpretation of the cultural-historical background.
- Introduction to textual critique and it's use during the reading of original Latin text.
