- Course objectives
- In this course, we seek out to provide to the students, already familiar with the work of argumentation and essay, some tools to master the scientific discourse patterns : in that way, we particularly focus on the various kinds of logical reasoning and their expression. We try to initiate the students into the difficulties and the methods of the scientific articles. Indeed, the final assessment of the course requires them to be able to write a paper themselves.

- Teaching methods
- Lecture: exposition and definitions of basic terms and their exemplification on different types of specific text (recordings), proceeding from diverse registers. Seminar: application of theoretical knowledge on authentic texts (recordings). During their presentations students show their ability to interconnect on their own their theoretical knowledge and practical analysis of a specific text.
- Assessment methods
- The examination of the course is divided in two parts : the first part which takes form of an assessment concerning the theoretical elements (50% of the final grade) ; the second one which consists in writing a scientific article (50% of the final grade). As these exams take part of a continuous assessment, no final examination is scheduled.
