- The lecture series will focus on important and for readers attractive works of well-known authors and on their analysis through relevant critical methods.
Each lecture will be focused on a selected text(s), which excerpts will students be able to read in advance in Czech.
Literary works will be placed in a cultural and social context, and their subsequent analysis will be extended by a relevant methodological approach (e.g. postcolonial, cognitive and feminist criticism, ecocritics, a genre perspective). - Learning outcomes
- After completing the course the student will be able to:
Students will gain an overview of contemporary world literature.
Students will learn to use adequate methods of analysis, interpretation and evaluation of a literary text and to assess their benefits and limits.
At the same time, they will learn to recognise the cultural specifics of the given national literature and their role in literary communication.
Students will be able to reflect their reading or reading preferences. - Syllabus
