Course objectives
The aim is to enable students to get acquainted with the environment of a particular college library and to apply the knowledge gained in other subjects in practice.
At the time of learning, the student is responsible for the operation of the assigned library desk, including the care of the library fund. He or she will get in direct contact with users and get acquainted with their information needs.
The student has the opportunity to fulfill part of the practice in the department of the depository and to become acquainted with the deposition and fund protection agenda.
Students of distance form who are not able to take part in the provision of services have the opportunity to develop a seminar paper on the LIS field.
A specialist is available to all students to consult.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- orientate themselves in the fund and the services of the Central Library;
- orientate in electronic resources at MU;
- solving user information requirements independently;
- conduct a reference interview;
- to discuss selected topics related to academic libraries.
Syllabus
  • 1. Basic introduction to the services and fund of the Central Library and electronic resources at MU (lecture).
  • 2. Individual training by a professional.
  • 3. Managed practice in the range of 25 hours, solving user queries, fund management.
  • 4. Task processing (partial searches, tutorials, ...) on a topic related to library operation. Preparation of a seminar paper on the field of academic librarianship. (For learners who can not participate in managed practices.).
  • 5. Final evaluation of the practice, evaluation of the task.
  • Note: Points 2 and 3 only apply to those students who participate in managed practice.
