- Course objectives
- At the end of the course, students should be able to understand the major topics of Biochemistry I course: The structure, basic features and molecular functions of the main components of living systems: Aminoacids, peptides, proteins and lipids. They will be able to perform basic calculations in thermodynamics as well as to understand the basics of enzymology. Last but not least, the students should understand metabolism of sugars, lipids and principles of citrate cycle, respiratory chain and photosynthesis.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, students should be able to understand the major topics of Biochemistry I course: The structure, basic features and molecular functions of the main components of living systems: Aminoacids, peptides, proteins and lipids. They will be able to perform basic calculations in thermodynamics as well as to understand the basics of enzymology. Last but not least, the students should understand the basics and consequences of sugar and lipid metabolism, citrate cycle, respiratory chain and photosynthesis.

- Teaching methods
- Seminar: Class discussion on the problematics, exercises, calculations.
- Assessment methods
- The participation in the lessons is comulsory, one absence is allowed, additional possible absences must be excused through the study department. The credit will be obtained in the case of success in sectional tests written during the semester (>70 % of points in total). Reparative tests will be focused on the complete content of the course (>70 % of points).

- Electronic textbook "Úlohy z biochemie" and the PowerPoint file with all presentations are available in IS MUNI in Learning materials. We advise the students to print these materials out and have them ready in the courses as they contain intro, schemas, exercises and data for the seminars (in Czech only).
