Course objectives
The objective of the lecture is getting to the students of biology the basic knowledge of biochemistry for their other biological education. After that course they should understand properties and functions of proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids, enzymology, metabolism and bioenergetics.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the students should theoretically understand biochemical processes undergoing in the living nature and also the methods of disintegration of animal, vegetal and microbial tissues, methods of isolation, purification of proteins, nucleic acids and other biopolymers, Methods for determination their purity and molecular properties, spectroscopic, electrochemical and physical methods of analysis in biochemistry. They should be able to apply these knowledges in their scientific research working on bachelor, master and PhD theses and finally during their following employment as well.

Teaching methods
Lectures with a demontration of the taught topic by means of demonstration videos and programs that are available for the students on web page of this course.
Assessment methods
The final exam is in the form of written test, which contains three questions, one from the static biochemistry, one from enzymology and one from metabolism and bioenergetics. The test also contains four chemical formulas of basic biochemical compounds, student should recognize them and write something about their functions. The exam also contains a test part with proposed questions.
