Course objectives

The course is devoted for students of geology. The main goal is the introduce to hydrogeology as a science. Students learn about history of the hydrogeology, origin and movement of the ground water, relationship between ground water and rocks, hydrologic equation. Students are introduced to methods of ground water survey and basics of contaminant hydrogeology.

• History of hydrogeology
• terminology
• physicochemical properties of water; water phases on Earth; classification of ground water
• hydrologic cycle; origin of ground water; hydrologic equation
• ground water movement in geological materials; porosity and permeability of rocks; Darcy's Law; ground water flow
• ground water flow in porous, fracturated and carstic rocks
• basic methods og ground water survey
• basic principles and introduce to contaminant hydrogeology
