Course objectives
Biological activity of compounds and the methods of their measurements. Physico-chemical properties of compounds and their parametrisation. Hydrophobic parameters. Parametrisation of the electronic and steric effects of molecules. Quantitative structure-activity relationships. Hansch approach. Free-Wilson approach. Regression analysis and its problems. Examples of evaluation of the antimicrobial activity of selected compounds. Other methods used in quantitative structure-activity relationships. Main objectives can be summarized as follows: understand to the principles of quantitative structure- activity relationships, choose the suitable parameters for the expression of physico-chemical properties of compounds, interpret the results.
Syllabus
  • Biological activity of compounds and the methods of their measurements. Cell membrane structure. Membrane transport of polar and nonpolar molecules.
