Course objectives
Learning outcomes: Five-day excursion to different parts of southern Moravia (surroundings of Znojmo, Mohelno or the White Carpathians): to visit important south-moravian plant areas and to know most common and some rare species of the Czech flora
Learning outcomes
After this excursion students should be able: - to identify vascular plants in the field; - to distinguish closely related species; - to know basic informations about ecology and plant geography of visited areas and discovered species
Syllabus
  • Botanical field work in various environments, including dry grasslands, rocks, various types of forests, vegetation on river and pond banks, mesophilous and wet meadows, weed communities and ruderal vegetation.
  • Differences between the vegetation and species diversity on basic and acidic substrates.
  • Methods of plant collection and conservation.
  • Introduction to the flora and vegetation of the Podyjí National Park, the surroundings of Mohelno in southwestern Moravia or in the Protected Landscape Area White Carpathians and principles of their conservation.

Teaching methods
One week (five days) of field trips in the second half of May, usually in a botanically interesting landscape such as the Podyjí National Park, the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area or the surroundings of Mohelno in southwestern Moravia. Plants and their diagnostic characters are shown in the field, accompanied by the information on their ecology and on the visited sites.
Assessment methods
Test of knowledge of plant species during the last field trip (10 or 20 species).
