- Prerequisites
- Knowledge of high-school biology on the level of Overview of High School Biology (https://is.muni.cz/auth/do/med/el/overview/overview_ENG.qwarp) or similar, and knowledge of all previous lectures and practical classes of the subject. Expected knowledge for each lecture is specified in the course syllabus.

- Course objectives
- The main objectives of the course are:
- understanding of cellular and molecular biology with a special focus on the potential application of acquired knowledge in clinical medicine - Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- describe and explain the organization of the prokaryotic and eukaryotic genome, DNA replication
- explain elementary processes taking place in cells (gene expression, inter- and intra-cellular communication, cell differentiation, cell division, cell death) and their purposes
- explain the relationship between malfunctioning cellular processes and the development of diseases
- explain how gene mutations and chromosome aberrations cause human diseases and illustrate it with examples - Syllabus
