- Course objectives
- An introduction to children's and juvenile literature in English; further focus on books for young readers.In the end of the course, students should be able to select proper English books for their classes and speak about selected genres.

- Sample texts will be provided in classes.
- Week 1: introduction, requirements, a book friendly environment.
- Week 2: children’s literature and its study; a brief history of children’s and juvenile literature; milestones of books for children.
- Week 3: „milestones“ discussed.
- Week 4, topic: block teaching, no regular classes/home reading.
- Week 5: test I; nursery rhymes.
- Week 6: modern poetry for children.
- Week 7: folk and fairy tales.
- Week 8: picture books.
- Week 9: test II; animal stories.
- Week 10: fantasy.
- Week 11: realistic books for children.
- Week 12: simplified books; promoting reading.
- Week 13: test III; building a class book-corner.
- Week 14: FAQ, credits.

- Requirements:
Pass three inclass tests (30 %).
Take part in class discussions (20 %).
Read assigned books, keep a reading diary, discuss the reading with the instructor (50 %).
