Course objectives
The main goal of the course is to familiarize students in more detail with a specific area of translation, namely translation in the field of marketing and advertising (including transcreation). The course develops advanced translation skills and the ability to creatively work with different types of texts intended for various target audiences.
Learning outcomes
Expected learning outcomes include the development of advanced translation competencies, particularly in the fields of marketing and advertising, including techniques and strategies specific to these areas. Students will gain the ability to creatively adapt texts for different target audiences and create effective messages that are culturally and contextually relevant. Furthermore, they will expand their technical skills in using translation tools and will be introduced to the latest trends in marketing translation. Their language proficiency will also improve.
Syllabus
  • Seminars are focused on the practical aspects of translation, which primarily include the systematic use of dictionaries, assessing the relevance of internet sources and working with them, researching realia, studying specialized terminology, compiling glossaries, creating summaries, and more. 1/ Theoretical part: introduction to translation in marketing and advertising. 2/ Practical part: translation of various types of texts, discussions.

Teaching methods
At the beginning of the course, specialized terminology will be defined, along with an overview of basic concepts. In seminars, students will then apply the theoretical knowledge they have acquired to specific texts. Working with texts in each seminar requires thorough prior preparation, including completing translations in advance. Additionally, during the semester, students will work on individual translation projects, which they will present at the end of the semester.
Assessment methods
Throughout the semester, active participation in classes and regular submission of assigned translations are required. The grade is awarded based on the presentation and submission of the final project (further details are provided in the interactive syllabus).
