Course objectives
Mgr. Fiala: Tghe seminar will deal with the history of Czech literature from the end of the 18th century till the 1890s. It will centre around particular authors and issues of literary history. The seminars will also show analyses and comparisons of some literary texts.
dr. Kudrnáč: The seminar is outlined as a complementation of a lecture on 19th century Czech literature. The sessions are devoted to authors and problems of Czech literature in a comparative perspective, in relation to Czech literature of different periods as well as in relation to other literatures.
dr. Řepa: The seminar will attempt at such a reading of the 19th Century texts that would give life to such works that a contemporary reader does not find worth reading. This task is to be achieved by scrutinizing the social and aesthetic codes of the time the texts were produced.
mgr. Urválková: The aim of the seminar is to stimulate the student to read the chosen literary texts and to try to think independently about them on the basis of their knowledge in literary history and theory. The topics are chosen so as to reflect the changes of the genre of Czech historical prose (not exclusively) in nineteenth century literature in the context of European literary evolution.
