Course objectives
The course looks into the issues of social culture whose demonstrations express the lives of people both in the broad social context (macro-world) and in the narrow family circle (micro-world). In the traditional culture they were demonstrated in the cycle of annual traditions as well as in the system of family customs and rituals. The course informs about the system of these rituals, customs and traditions (e. g. at birth, marriage, death, within the annual cycle in connection with religious and farming festivities, etc.); some of them do not evolve any longer but some still remain part of contemporary people’s everyday lives and are being amended, modified and often newly created. Attention is also paid to the need for rituals in peoples’ lives and social memory.
