Course objectives
The course is devoted for students of Bachelors program. The main objectives are the following:
introducing to hydrogeology as a science;
understanding of permeability of rocks and its origin;
learning the basic principles of groundwater flow;
using of hydrological equation;
introducing to methods of groundwater measurement and sampling;
learning basics of contaminant hydrogeology.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- understand groundwater circulation issues;
- understand groundwater contamination;
- process and analyze basic hydrogeological data;
- interpret outputs of basic hydrogeological methods;
Syllabus
  • History of hydrogeology
  • terminology
  • physicochemical properties of water; water phases on Earth; classification of ground water
  • hydrologic cycle; origin of ground water; hydrologic equation
  • ground water movement in geological materials; porosity and permeability of rocks; Darcy's Law; ground water flow
  • ground water flow in porous, fracturated and carstic rocks
  • basic methods of ground water survey
  • basic principles and introduce to contaminant hydrogeology

Assessment methods
Teaching methods: lectures, class exercises, homework. Written exam. In the case of a crisis pandemic situation, the course will be completed in the autumn semester of 2020 by distance form.
