- Course objectives
- This course aims to improve and develop the ICT skills and competencies of Geography teachers and to improve the quality of the material they produce for class. The course will also assist geography teachers to integrate ICT into their teaching. At the end of the course student should be able to understand basic methods used for teaching geography using IT. He/she would be able to explain when to apply individual methods and make reasoned decisions about preconditions that are necessary for proper utilization of methods in question.
- Syllabus
- 1. Practical excercises elaborated according to the provided examples on selected internet databases of geographical data. 2. Use of querry languages to select desired information from the database (e.g. IRIS) 3. Thematic mapping in global scale (VISITView) focused on several geographical disciplines (climatology, hydrology, geomorphology) with the steers on the use in teaching geography. 4. Practical use of geoinformatics (GI) to examine contemporary problems in global, regional and local scale. 5. How to teach about environmental problems with the help of GI (GIS, remote sensing). 6. Geoinformatics and individual forms of learning

- Teaching methods
- Lectures explaining basic terms on ICT in geography education. During the lectures individual examples focusing on internet sources are presented step by step. Practical training based on several exercises that are solved using recommended internet data sources and software.
