From the front support, overgrip, gymnast initiates the element by moving bending hips and pushing legs under the bar together with a backward movement of the shoulders. This puts the whole body into rotation around the bar.Active arm work and a toned body with a slight head flexion allows the hips to stay near the bar. When the legs are above the bar level, the angle between the arms and the trunk opens up, while the legs are pushed diagonally upwards. The flight phase is completed by landing in a slight squat with the arms going from upright to sideward position.
From a mechanical point of view, the underswing dismount is based on the conversion of potential energy into kinetic energy. First, the body performs a rotational motion around the bar of about 130°. The subsequent opening of the angle between the arms and the torso causes the termination of the rotational motion and the creation of a translational motion in a parabolic path. Along this trajectory, the lower limbs pass first, followed by the other body segments. During the landing, the lower limbs go into a slight squatting position, which increases the deceleration time and therefore reduces the impact force on the mat.
- The body is not tight, which leads to the hips dropping off the bar at the initiation of the element.
- Bent upper limbs.
- Extended head position.
-
Physical preparation 1
For the element, it is important to keep the body tight.
-
Physical preparation 2
It is necessary to strengthen the adductors of the arms in order to keep the hips close to the bar in the element.
-
Drill 1
Practice the final phase of the underswing dismount with landing on the high mat on the back, first without releasing the bar, then with releasing it. The first attempts are performed with assistance, then without it.
-
Drill 2
The following exercise is underswing dismount from standing hang with assistance, then without it.
-
Drill 3
Practice underswing dismount to the high mat with landing on the high mat on the back, first without releasing the bar, then with releasing it.
-
Drill 4
The next drill is an underswing dismount from the support position without the cast with assistance, then without it.
The supporter passes one hand under the bar and holds the gymnast's wrist. With this hand, we control the movement of the upper body in the flight and landing phase. The other hand is under the thigh and helps the gymnast to correct the direction and height of the flight phase.
