Course objectives
Chapters in the Syntax of Czech language 2 follows Chapters in the Syntax of Czech language 1. There are explained approaches to the analysis of the compound sentence and complex sentence in the Czech syntax, principles of parataxis and hypotaxis. The theoretical knowledge of that lecture is a theoretical basis (platform) for practical exercises at the seminary course CJ2BP_JSy2.
It is presupposed student after finishing the course:
- Students know the terminology of syntax concerning complex and compound sentence;
- Students can use knowledge of terminology in analysis of compoound and complex sentence practically.
- Students know some syntactic theories concerning compound and complex sentence and textu.
Syllabus
  • 1. Criteria for the differentiation between sentence and compound sentence, between sentence and complex sentence.
  • 2. Compound sentence, complex sentence Connectives (word class of connectives, syntactical function, meaning).
  • 3. Types of the compound sentence. Juxtaposition. Co-ordination. Complex sentence, subordination. Criteria of the classification of complex sentence.
  • 4. Sentence and clause.
  • 5. Co-ordination in the compound sentence. Types of the semantic function of the co-ordination, the connective of the co-ordination. 6. Subordination.
  • 7. Classification of the clauses in the complex sentence.
  • 8. Sentence in the text. Sentence as communicative units. Segmentation of the text. Units of the texts.
  • 9. Structure of the text. Connective in text, their meaning and function. Functional perspective of the sentence and the structure of the text.

Teaching methods
- Theorethical lecture with graphical presentation.
- Examples of language phenomena ilustrating theorethical theme.
- Discussion, lessons hours.
Assessment methods
Lecture. Ending: Credit Credit requirements: knowlege of the themen of syllabus; it will be proved by written exam in last lesson. To be succesfull student has to solve 80 % of the objectives of the written examination.
