Cíle předmětu
- to develop all four language skills (reading, listening, speaking and writing) and create stress-free environment for the students to practise in
- to develop all language systems (grammar, lexis, pronunciation and functions) and work on extending the range and accuracy of students’ language as well as register
- to teach the students to analyze the language with respect to language teaching
- to help change the role of the student from a learner to a model and a potential source of information
- to provide the students with model situations from the learning/teaching process and show them the possible application of various strategies and teaching techniques
- to focus on and improve key study skills (e.g. organizing study time, critical thinking, dealing with extended texts, writing assignments, etc.)
Výstupy z učení
The students will:
- be able to confidently use the English language in a wide range of communicative situations at the level B2-C1 (CEFR) using advanced vocabulary.
- be able to effectively distinguish UK and US pronunciation and successfully use one of those in verbal communication.
- be able to fluently and accurately express themselves. They will also be able to effectively monitor their performance for fluency and accuracy.
- be able to confidently communicate in the English language using different registers (formal and informal) in verbal and written form.
- be able to realistically evaluate their performance and continuously work on personal improvement.
- be able to independently work with printed and online materials to keep improving their skills.
- have improved their presentation skills and will be able to give a solid non-academic presentation in front of a larger audience.
- have successfully completed their first year portfolios.
- learn to analyze and assess various materials with regard to teaching the language.

Výukové metody
This course uses a variety of teaching methods such as pair and group work, class and online forum discussions (in Mood-link-a), short class presentations, written assignments, practical exercises, role-plays, acted-out dialogues, and learning centers.
The Mood-link-a site provides students with more self-study materials.
Metody hodnocení
The general pass mark for this course is 70%.
Throughout the semester there will be various tasks that make up the Continuous Assessment (based on work done in-class as well as out-of-class assignments). The out-of-class assignments include discussions online, development of a language portfolio, and a written assignment. The tasks of the Continuous Assessment will make up 40% of the course.
The final exam at the end of the semester will consist of a written test (evaluating the students’ grammar and vocabulary based on the course book as well as general reading and listening skills) and spoken interviews. Students need to reach 70% in both the written part and the spoken interviews.

Spring 2020 Exam Information:
Please note that in semester Spring 2020, the final exam will be held online. The final written test will be taken in Mood-link-a, and the final oral exam will be held via Zoom. Students will sign up for terms in the IS for both the written and oral part of the exam. Students will be sent a Zoom meeting invitation 2 days before the term of their oral exam.
