- Course objectives
- At the end of this course, students should be able to explain the principles and application of the electron microscopy, the history of the development of electron microscopes; to describe to the construction of transmission electron microscope (TEM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM); to understand and explain of the imaging methods in TEM and SEM; to learn basic techniques of specimen preparation for electron microscopy; to apply the knowledges to the selected samples; to interpret biological structures in the electron micrographs; to have knowledge of artefacts; to acquire the principles of the routine operation of the electron microscope.

- The theoretical part:
- an introduction to electron microscopy
- transmission electron microscope
- preparative methods for TEM
- scanning electron microscope
- preparative methods for SEM
- electronmicroscopic cytology
- The practical part:
- preparing glass knives
- preparing grids for ultrathin sections
- cutting and staining of semi-thin sections
- preparing samples for SEM
- individual routine operation of the electron microscope
