- Course objectives
- The main purpose in the course is to acquaint students with the basic techniques of light microscopy and the possibilities of processing biological material in the form of different types of prepared zoological microscope slides.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course, students should be able to: work with light microscope; effectively use the specialized techniques of light microscopy (dark field, phase contrast, differential interference contrast, fluorescence, drawing, measuring); prepare basic types of microscope slides (fixation, staining, mounting in the media, histological slides) and propose a suitable method of processing biological material in the form of a prepared microscope slides.
- Syllabus
- Light microscopy - dark field, phase contrast, differential interference contrast, fluorescence, measurement methods, drawing. Basic zoological techniques - native slides, vital staining (neutral red, Methylene green); Permanent slides, framing, fixation, staining; glycerol, glycerol jelly, Liquido-Faure; resinous media - canada balsam, Entellan. Histological slides - embedding, cutting and staining.
