Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide a theoretical and practical introduction to qualitative research methodology and the possibilities of its application in educational sciences. Students are first acquainted with the theoretical background of a qualitative paradigm. Subsequently, the procedure for a qualitative research survey is discussed in detail and in partial steps. Students work in groups. Each group chooses their own research question and students in each step work on their own practice research project. During the course, students gradually carry out six seminar assignments that are evaluated on a continuous basis. The final outcome of the course is preparation of a research report and its defence at the final seminar.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course students will be able to: Understand the philosophical foundations of qualitative research. Identify the research problem appropriate for a qualitative research survey. Correctly formulate a research question suitable for qualitative research. Adequately plan research design. Design a semi-structured in-depth interview scheme and conduct an interview using this scheme. Apply basic analytical techniques: open coding, categorization, analytical storytelling. Interpret interview data. Write a research report summarizing their own research survey and its results.
