Basic knowledge of the system of organisms. - Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Biology with a view to Education (programme PřF, B-BI)
- General Biology (programme PřF, B-BI, specialization Plant Physiology)
- Course objectives
- Basic survey of the groups of organisms which were formerly called "lower plants". Taxonomic units, classification. Prokaryota: classification of cyanobacteria in recent system. Eukaryota: endosymbiotic origin of the semiautonomous organelles. Survey of the particular divisions of the algae, fungi and "fungi-like organisms", their classification on lower levels: classes and orders. Basic characteristics, their function in the ecosystems, their importance. Recent opinions to the position of the mentioned groups in the system of all organisms (different kingdoms).
Main objectives can be summarized as follows:
learning of particular taxa of described organisms;
ability to characterize particular groups, describe their characters and life processes;
understanding of evolutional consequences among particular groups. - Syllabus
