- Course objectives
- The subject provides basic knowledge of molecular and cell biology and human genetics, including cell structure and function, preservation and expression of genetic information, cellular interactions and metabolism, development, basics of cancer biology and basic genetics. This knowledge is a prerequisite for further theoretical and preclinical studies.

- Cellular organization of living systems. Biopolymers. Cell memory. Presrvation and duplication of fenetic information. Expression of genetic information and its regulation. Translation and protein metabolism. Biomembranes and energy transformation. Membrane transport. Organization of cell nucleus. Chromosomes. Cytoskeleton. Motor proteins. Cell cycle. Mitosis and cytokinesis. Cell interactions and signalling. Secretion pathway and endocytosis. Stem cells and strategy of cellular therapy. Neoplastic transformation of cells. Intracellular signal transduction. From gene to trait: Mendelian genetics. Mechanisms of DNA repair and genome stability. Mutations and hereditary diseases. Genetic engineering. Human genome. Molecular disgnostics. Gene therapy.

- Teaching methods
- two-hour lecture per week
- Assessment methods
- Written exam of multiple choice type. The test contains 45 questions generated out of 15 syllabus chapters. The test is evaluated electronically and the results are transferred to the IS. Maximal number of points is 45. For successful exam passing 20 points are needed.
