Course objectives
The seminar introduces the main theoretical problems of translation and deals with translation practice in translating scholarly, journalistic and literary texts. With scholarly and journalistic texts, the focus is on translation from Czech into Modern Greek, literary texts will be translated into Czech or compared to already published translations. The seminar will be supplemented by students’ presentations on topics from the field of translation studies. By the end of the course, students will have acquainted the main theoretical problems of translation and they will be capable of translating a scholarly text into Greek and a literary text from Greek into Czech. Students will also be capable of evaluating translations.

Teaching methods
The course has a form of a seminar. Students will prepare assigned translation for each lesson, in some cases they will evaluate others students’ translations.
Assessment methods
Students get their credits for active attendance at the lessons, working out the prescribed homework (translation and control of other students´ texts), delivering a paper in class and passing a written exam on the theory of translation (over 70 %).
