Course objectives
The basic obligatory course of the subject paleontology devoted to all students of bachelor study of Geology. It follows the main goal to present them the main general principles of paleontology and a fundamental overview of the paleozoological and paleobotanical system.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to paleontology: Origin and types of fossils & Principles of Palaeoecology & Basics of taxonomy and nomenclature & The origin of life & System - fundamental characteristics of individual groups of organisms, phylogenetic relations, stratigraphic and paleogeographic extent, use in geology & Procaryota, Fungi & Algobionta & Cormobionta & Protozoa & Archaeocyatha & Porifera & Coelenterata & Vermes & Arthropoda & Mollusca & Bryozoa & Brachiopoda & Echinodermata & Hemichordata & Chordata (Vertebrata) & Contribution of paleontology to geology.

Teaching methods
The course consists of theoretical lectures.
Assessment methods
The exam is a written test - main nomenclature, primary features of basic groups of fossils, their ecological requirements, stratigraphical extent. The test consists of 10 questions, maximum number of points makes 20. For the success it is necessary to obtain at least 11.
